Our Facilities - The Sawmill

Log trucks weigh in at the main office & then pull into the yard to be unloaded by a CAT 988.
It can unload an entire truck at once!

The CAT 988 also supplies logs to the sawmill.
It has just placed a load of logs into the quadrant.

The logs are singulated in the quadrant
and debarked before entering the mill.

The operator shown at right directs this process from a crow's nest.

Bucksaws cut the debarked logs to length.
The log goes to a quad bandsaw (4-blades)
or a single bandsaw (shown below).

The bandsaws cut the logs into large cants.
Now they're ready for processing into 2x4, 2x6, and
1x4 lumber.

Even slabs are processed into lumber with
the help of a resaw.  This is a secondary breakdown process.

This photo shows the resaw operator facing the resaw
and slabs coming towards him from the right.

Our Ukiah edger cuts 4" cants into 2x4 lumber
as shown in this picture.

This computer controlled COE edger scans each cant, determines the optimum amount of lumber that can be cut, and adjusts the saws accordingly.
